The NYPD Wants Its Officers to Try to Be Funnier on Twitter

Slowly but surely, the NYPD is getting the hang of this social media thing. The next lesson? How to make people laugh (or, more likely, groan or mock). Now that every precinct in New York City has its own Twitter account, the Post reports that cops are being encouraged to avoid jargon and use “tasteful humor” in order to gain more followers. For an example of what not to do, officers can look to the 25th Precinct’s Captain Thomas Harnisch, who recently used an unfunny joke about a woman’s subway death to get into a fight with a transportation activist. Can’t wait to see what the rest of these people come up with.
