Spanish Ebola Nurse’s Dog Put Down

A petition with almost 400,000 signatures was not enough to save Excalibur, the beloved pet of a nurse’s assistant in Spain infected with Ebola. Teresa Romero’s 12-year-old pup was euthanized on Wednesday afternoon, the health ministry confirmed, supposedly to eliminate any risk that the animal would pass on Ebola to other humans. Romero’s husband had left the dog 33 pounds of food and lots of water so Excalibur could survive his quarantine period without coming into contact with anyone else. While dogs can be infected with Ebola, studies have found they remain asymptomatic.
