Convicted Speed Demon Afroduck Flees to Canada

Remember Afroduck? We do! He’s the guy who used a dash cam to film himself driving a record-setting 24-minute lap around Manhattan (average speed: 66 mph) and then dared the cops to come find him. (They did.) On Thursday, Afroduck (a.k.a. Adam Tang) was finally convicted of reckless endangerment and reckless driving, but he wasn’t around to face his punishment: He skipped bail on Wednesday. It turns out that, like many a self-righteous American rebel before him, Afroduck has fled to Canada. It also turns out that he’s Canadian and has no apparent plans to return to New York.

I mean, sure, maybe I did a stupid thing, I thought it would be cool, in hindsight New Yorkers would appreciate it, but do you think what I did was dangerous?” Afroduck told WABC. “The biggest lesson that I learned through all this is that if the cops come knocking at your door, don’t cooperate. I mean what kind of society is that?”

He added that if the NYPD wants him, they’ll have to come and get him. “If the, I guess for lack of a better word, the man wants to come down on you, this is the extent to which they’ll do it in order to prove a political point,” he said. How far will 25-mph-speed-limit-loving Mayor de Blasio go to punish fast drivers? Probably not as far as Canada, but you never know.
