Anthony Marshall, who, after a very high-profile trial, was convicted in 2009 of stealing around $60 million from his Alzheimer’s-plagued mother, the late socialite and philanthropist Brooke Astor, died on Sunday morning at the age of 90. Despite receiving a one- to three-year prison sentence, Marhsall’s failing health got him released after just three months, and he spent the rest of his life in an Upper East Side townhouse with his third wife, Charlene. As the Daily News notes, Marshall’s obituary — which just happened to be written by his widow — contained no mention of “Astor, or Marshall’s twin sons, Alexander and Philip, or the scandal that ruined her husband’s reputation.” Tasteful.
