President Obama Upstages Stephen on The Colbert Report

President Obama’s first and only appearance on The Colbert Report seemed like the perfect opportunity for Stephen to have a reconciling-with-bears-esque change of heart, but instead the only surprising shift came from Obama. The president took over Colbert’s duties on Monday night’s show, explaining, “You’ve taken plenty of shots at my job — I’m going to take a shot at yours.” He proceeded to expertly deliver “The Word,” or rather “The Decree,” reading from Colbert’s script and even attempting the cocked eyebrow. “Nation,” Obama said, “as you know, I, Stephen Colbert, have never cared for our president. That guy is so arrogant. I bet he talks about himself in the third person.”

The whole segment was another plug for Obamacare, but in addition to mocking himself, Obama got in some shots at Congress, Mitch McConnell, and Fox News. “Young people don’t watch real news shows like this one,” Obama said, as the words on the screen read, “Or fake ones like Fox.”

Colbert’s subsequent interview was a bit of a letdown, probably because the conservative pundit doesn’t believe in this president as passionately as he believed in George W. Bush.
