Eric Garner Protesters Managed to Stop Traffic on the Staten Island Expressway This Morning

Demonstrations against the Eric Garner grand jury decision are still going strong in New York City, where protesters managed to shut down part of the Staten Island Expressway at 9:30 a.m. on Monday. Gothamist reports that around 30 banner-wielding people blocked Brooklyn-bound traffic near the Verrazano Bridge for seven minutes, a reference to the amount of time Garner was left lying on a Staten Island sidewalk after he was choked by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo.

An MTA spokesperson told the New York Post that the protesters didn’t achieve their stated goal of completely stopping motorists from getting onto the Verrazano, since four access lanes remained open during the demonstration. Still, the images are pretty dramatic:
