In September Mayor de Blasio revealed that his son, Dante, brings his phone to Brooklyn Technical School despite the years-old ban on students carrying portable electronic devices in New York City public schools. Now the Daily News reports that in another attempt to make the city’s 1.1 million schoolchildren think he’s more fun than Mayor Bloomberg, de Blasio is lifting the ban for everyone. Each school can set its own policy, but the default rule will be that kids can bring phones into the building, as long as they keep them hidden. “Parents should be able to call or text their kids — that’s what this comes down to,” said de Blasio. “It’s something Chirlane and I felt ourselves when Chiara took the subway to high school in another borough each day.” They’re just going to use their phones for emergencies — promise!
