Jeb Bush’s views on gay marriage aren’t clear-cut: He’s said loving same-sex parents deserve praise, and wavered on whether Florida needed a gay-marriage ban before saying he was leaning toward supporting it. The Washington Post concluded that Bush “seems positioned to move toward gay marriage support if he so chose,” but even with same-sex marriages starting in his home state, the potential 2016 candidate remains unmoved. When asked about a federal judge’s decision last week that Florida must begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples on January 6, Bush told the Miami Herald, “It ought be a local decision. I mean, a state decision,” adding, “The state decided. The people of the state decided. But it’s been overturned by the courts, I guess.” Looks like he’s sticking with the marriage equivalent of “I’m not a scientist” for now.
