Hacktivist spokesman and journalist Barrett Brown will be spending 35 more months in prison, a judge announced Thursday, after he was sentenced to 63 months minus time served on three charges. (He’ll also have to pay $890,000 in restitution to Stratfor Global Intelligence.) Brown gained notoriety when he was initially charged with 12 counts of aggravated identity theft for simply posting a link to publicly available data stolen by the hacker collective Anonymous. Those charges were eventually dropped after widespread outcry, and he pleaded guilty to charges of threatening an FBI agent, and two charges related to aiding-and-abetting and obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, Jeremy Hammond — the hacker responsible for releasing the Stratfor documents — was sentenced to ten years in 2013.
