At a city council meeting on Monday, Democratic councilman David G. Greenburg proposed capping the maximum amount Uber would be able to charge during surge pricing. Instead of hiking it up to three or four times the normal trip rate during rain and rush hour, Greenburg wants to make it illegal for Uber to charge more than two times the typical fare. “As New Yorkers, we live and die by the rule that we do not want to be ripped off,” he said, according to the Times. Ah well, there’s always the rain surcharge.
