Less than a week after New York’s gentle snow-fest, another storm is scheduled to hit the city on Sunday. Forecasters say that the snow should start falling in between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and will continue through the night, leaving four to eight inches on the ground. And then comes the fun part: As the sun rises, sleet and freezing rain will make Monday’s commute a living hell.
The National Weather Service has issued a storm warning for the city. In an afternoon press conference, Mayor de Blasio advised the public to be careful while driving tonight and tomorrow morning and to use mass transit if possible. He also told people to stay out of the parks. “The biggest threat in this case would be ice,” he said. “We want people to be very, very cautious tomorrow as you’re getting around.”
Is the city under-preparing for what will turn out to be the “historic” snowfall we didn’t get earlier this month? Adequately perparing for a moderate amount of snow and less-photogenic precipitation? Over-preparing for a single, magical February day of blue skies and temperatures in the mid-70s? The only way to find out is to wait.
