The Taxi & Limousine Commission is trying to win back drivers lured to the dark side (literally and possibly metaphorically). Under a new pilot program, up to 400 drivers can paint their black livery cars yellow and operate as taxi cabs. This is the first time in 20 years that New York has allowed used cars to join the fleet, and there are some restrictions: Only certain models are eligible, and the vehicles must be less than two years old. Naturally, drivers will also need to have a cab medallion. Uber claims they’re in favor of the program. “Anything that opens up more opportunities for drivers, as the Uber app did three years ago, is great for riders and great for cities,” said spokesman Matthew Wing.
