Winter Has Claimed the Brooklyn Bridge Flags

Eight months after two white flags were raised over the Brooklyn Bridge, the Star-Spangled Banner has been compromised again — but not by lovable German artists. The Daily News reports that high winds and wintery weather have left the flags over the bridge in tatters, with huge horizontal tears. And to make matters worse, there’s nothing we can do about it. “Winds have recently torn at the flags and those same conditions, coupled with ice and snow, have made it unsafe to conduct our routine replacement of the flags,” said a Department of Transportation spokesperson. “Bridge crews have also been exceptionally busy this winter pre-treating and clearing bridges and overpasses.” Looks like this disgusting winter, our collective archnemesis, wins again.
