Though we’re sure your morning commute was bad, at least you weren’t flying into La Guardia. A Delta flight headed into New York from Atlanta skidded off the runway around 11 a.m. when trying to land in icy conditions. The FDNY says no serious injuries have been reported.
The plane appears to have crashed into a fence on the side of the runway, but avoided dipping into the water that flanks La Guardia’s runways. The AP reports the plane lost its right wing and is leaking fuel. Passengers safely deplaned using the inflatable slides and were shuttled to a nearby terminal. La Guardia closed immediately after the incident and reopened around 2:30 p.m.
“I just survived this,” one woman said while recording an Instagram video of the plane. “Thank you New York for having such shitty ass weather.”
Jaime Primak, star of the Bravo show “Jersey Belle,” and NY Giants player Larry Donnell were both on the plane. “Look at this shit,” Donnell wrote on Instagram. “Knew I should’ve stayed my ass home.”
Delta is calling the crash landing a mere “exit.” “Delta flight 1086 from Atlanta to New York-LaGuardia exited Runway 13 Thursday morning during landing,” the company said in a statement. “Customers deplaned via aircraft slides and have moved to the terminal on buses. Our priority is ensuring our customers and crew members are safe. Delta will work with all authorities and stakeholders to look into what happened in this incident.”
