Restaurant Across From East Village Explosion Site Evicted for Siphoning Gas

Stage Restaurant, a Ukrainian diner that’s been in the East Village for 35 years, will be evicted this month for having “illegally and dangerously altered the piping and gas lines in the building” — the exact crime that authorities believe triggered the deadly gas explosion at a Japanese restaurant directly across the street. The restaurant, located at 128 Second Avenue, has until April 30 to vacate.
