At least once a month, a New Yorker is injured by falling debris from a construction site, according to The Wall Street Journal. Maybe we should all start wearing bike helmets everywhere?
2014 had the highest number of construction-site accidents since 2008, with 22 pedestrians injured by falling objects like hammers, bricks, and plywood. Last month, a woman walking through the West Village was killed after a piece of plywood flew off a construction site and hit her.
Add “getting killed by construction debris” to the list of uniquely New York fears, right beneath “falling through a sidewalk grate.”
