Salvatore Grillo was walking his beloved dog, Abby, near Prospect Park West in early February when a subterranean explosion sent a manhole cover flying into his head. He and Abby both suffered serious injuries, and now they’re taking their complaints to court.
Grillo is suing Con Edison for its part in the explosion, alleging that the company “failed to prevent wiring from eroding” and didn’t install a manhole cover that wouldn’t go flying if anything happened. But he’s also named Abby as a complainant in the suit, since she suffered singed paws and fur as a result of the incident.
Hopefully ConEd will be forced to pay damages in rawhides.
