If fish are hanging out in a Newark sewer grate, or swimming up the street, you did not just find a free dinner option, warn Newark health officials. Flash flooding from heavy rains caused ponds and streams to overflow, allowing fish to escape from filthy pond water to even filthier puddle water. Though officials say they have no confirmed reports of people actually eating them, they just want to remind residents that even if street fish look tasty, they probably most definitely are covered in sewage and other “contaminants.”
