The FBI arrested three North Carolina men on Saturday for allegedly planning to go to war with the United States when the government imposed martial law. Court records show that the men were familiar with conspiracy theories inspired by the Jade Helm military training exercises currently under way in the southern U.S. The trio had been stockpiling radios, assault rifles, and body armor — and had been building homemade explosives they called “game changers.” The men said they set up a base camp on 99 acres in North Carolina and intended “to booby-trap the camp and draw government forces into the camp and kill them,” according to the court documents. The federal government had shown no interest in capturing these men, abridging their rights, or taking their guns away until a tipster told local authorities that the men were perhaps building bombs. A local reporter tweeted yesterday that people are guarding the house of one of the arrested men with a Rottweiler and saying this whole thing was “blown out of proportion.”
We apologize, and will immediately start a thorough review of our exhibit policies and procedures so that this does not happen again.
