The bright blue light spotted high above Southern California at around 6 p.m. Saturday was not a UFO but merely a military weapons test, the government insisted.
Of course, the government always has an answer for everything.
The light — which appeared for only a few minutes — left a dimly glowing cometlike tail behind it and was visible as far away as Colorado, according to internet reports.
On Sunday, Commander Ryan Perry with the Navy’s Third Fleet confirmed that the light came from the thruster of a Trident II (D5) missile launched from a submarine somewhere off the coast of L.A. According to the Navy’s official statement, “Strategic Systems Programs does not routinely announce missile testing.”
Loren Thompson, a military analyst with the Lexington Institute, says that not telling the public about weapons tests ahead of time is actually key to national security: “The Russians and Chinese would have great interest in finding ways to defeat this type of missile.”
Just think what they would do to know more about our government’s UFO capabilities.
The launch could also be viewed as a very effective flex of America’s not-often-seen nuclear capabilities. The Trident II (along its predecessor Trident I) is the main seaborn nuclear deterrent available to the U.S. Navy.
However, Julien Solomita, a true believer, echoed the sentiment of the internet in the L.A. Times: “I’m not 100% convinced I know what happened no matter what news channels are saying.”
