Ten men arrived in Oman on Thursday morning after spending more than a decade at Guantánamo without any charge, bringing the number of prisoners currently being held at the prison to 94. It’s the first time the prison has held fewer than 100 detainees since opening in 2002. In Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, he called the prison “expensive,” “unnecessary,” and “a recruitment brochure for our enemies.” Of the prisoners that remain, according to The Guardian, 10 are in the military-tribunal process, 34 are supposed to be transferred this summer, and 49 have not been charged with anything but are considered too dangerous for the U.S. to release.
