A little more than an hour after polls closed Tuesday night, multiple outlets called the Democratic primary in Rhode Island for Bernie Sanders. Sanders and Clinton had been more or less tied in polls there all week, but according to the Upshot, he led by more than 12 points with all precincts reporting.
Earlier in the evening, Clinton won Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania by 30, 20, and 11 points, respectively. The race was much closer in Connecticut, but almost three hours after polls closed, multiple outlets called that state for Clinton as well — according to the Upshot, she leads Sanders there by about four points.
In a speech in Philadelphia just after her Pennsylvania victory, Clinton praised Sanders and called once again to unite the party.
“I applaud Senator Sanders and his millions of supporters for challenging us to get unaccountable money out of our politics and giving greater emphasis to closing the gap of inequality,” she said. “And I know together we will get that done. Because whether you support Senator Sanders or you support me, there’s much more that unites us than divides us.”
