The New York Giants cut ties with kicker Josh Brown Tuesday afternoon, nearly a week after the release of documents that showed him admitting to “physically, mentally, emotionally, and verbally” abusing his wife. Brown, who the Giants re-signed in the off-season despite knowledge of his abuse, was left in New York over the weekend while the team traveled to London to play the Rams. Though the Giants left Brown behind, he was still a member of the team, which remained “supportive” of him.

Now, Giants president John Mara admits that was “misguided.” In a statement explaining Brown’s release, Mara said, “We believed we did the right thing at every juncture in our relationship with Josh. Our beliefs, our judgments and our decisions were misguided. We accept that responsibility.”
