The Astor Place Cube made its triumphant return Tuesday to its rightful spot, which has been without its signature sculpture for lo these many (two) years. Tony Rosenthal created the 15-foot structure, also known as the Alamo, which was installed in Astor Place in 1967. It has been disappeared for repairs once before but was hauled away in the fall of 2014 because of major construction in the area. New York City Department of Design and Construction promised Astor Place would get the sculpture back this June, but delayed its arrival until August. Then that deadline came and went, and perhaps realizing that we could all use some cheering up, officials finally brought it home.
