At Deitch Projects, an effort is underway to promote the outsider artwork of Liz Renay, the late burlesque diva, gangster moll, and John Waters muse, who occupied her reflective moments by painting erotic kitsch. Amid voluptuous portraits of reclining nudes and full-figured storybook heroines in clingy period garb, this painting of Adam and Eve — with the original temptress depicted as a rouged blow-up doll — combines a porn aesthetic with a touching naïveté.
