Tasset’s massive multicolored work is a big rectangular prism etched with the names of 392,486 artists. They range from Matisse and Eva Hesse to emerging talents, with all the hierarchies flattened, a giant catalogue of lives lived unfiltered by curators, gallerists, or much of anything else. It’s some kind of act of faith from an otherwise bland Whitney Biennial.
