This West Village fixture may have been the site of Robert De Niro’s Off Broadway debut (One Night Stands of a Noisy Passenger in 1970) but its real claim to fame has been for decidedly trashier fare: long-running gay-themed hits like the prison drama Fortune and Men’s Eyes, the musical revue Naked Boys Singing!, and the salacious comedy Making Porn. Though not every production here features male nudity, many have, and those that haven’t (The Marijuana-logues and Bush Wars) have been far from prudish. Though the 170-seat basement theater is somewhat decrepit, the sight lines are fairly good throughout, guaranteeing most audience members a good view of the merchandise.
