Located at the northeastern end of Central park, the 11-acre Harlem Meer (Dutch for "lake") was constructed after the lower park had been completed. Here, ducks, geese and other birds roam freely. A tiny beach with imported sand keeps kids busy as do numerous playgrounds and the Lasker Pool and Rink, located on the Meer's southwestern edge. The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center along its northern shore hosts educational events, as well as a free music and dancing series during the summer.
