Tucked away in an anonymous office building, the Mint serves as a gateway to theater’s forgotten past. Plays performed here are the sort found gathering dust in libraries, sometimes in spite of the literary heavyweights who penned them. A.A. Milne’s The Truth About Blayds, D.H. Lawrence’s The Daughter-in-Law, and J.M. Barrie’s The Old Lady Shows Her Medals have all been resuscitated under artistic director Jonathan Bank’s stewardship. The company’s reputation for rediscovering masterworks has been steadily varnished since its New York premiere of Harley Granville-Barker’s The Voysey Inheritance in 1999. (That landmark production was followed by Obie and Drama Desk awards in 2001 and 2002, then a $100,000 Tony Randall Grant in 2006.) Seating 100 patrons, the performance space itself is a modest, widened version of the traditional black box so your view of the latest revival of the lost is sure to be up close and personal.
