Turtle Pond lies at the base of Belvedere Castle and, like the Great Lawn, was not part of the park’s original design. Named after the very visible tortoises that call this body of water their home, the pond was completely renovated in 1997. Shoreline plants were added, as was an island on which the turtles—and other creatures—sun themselves.
