This unpretentious by-the-numbers Irish bar—flat-screens, dining room, sports memorabilia—boasts a few twists to its credit. First, there's the giant mural, just past the bright-red façade, of Ali knocking out Liston in 1965. Then there's the odd off-menu seasonal beer, selections rotated frequently, the bar-mitzvah-style cover bands (with names like the Rhythm Dogs and Groove Buffet) that take over the stage in the dining room a few nights a week, and the local pool league competes in the billiard room in back. And finally, there’s the live-band karaoke, a twice-a-month spectacle that's just as cheesy, hilarious, and awful as it sounds. It's all attended by low-key locals and college kids from nearby Marymount Manhattan and Hunter.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
