Profile

Because it was once marked only by a standard-issue illuminated Guinness sign, this East Village tavern is known simply as 11th Street Bar. The handsome brick-walled establishment doesn't hit you over the head with ostensible Paddy tradition. The place serves the full alcoholic complement, but really you come here to drink that chocolate-cake-in-a-pint-glass mentioned above. Surprisingly, weekend nights often find the back room less than crowded—making it easy for you and fifteen of your pals to have the run of the place for a birthday or some such.

Live Music

Sun., 9 p.m.–11 p.m., traditional acoustic Irish music; Tue.–Wed., 9 p.m.–11 p.m., acoustic guitar, bluegrass. Concerts don't take place every week; call ahead for details.

Poetry Readings
Every other Monday, 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.; on hiatus from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

The 11th St Bar is 'tucked away' -- BECAUSE IT DOESN'T BELONG THERE. The 'cozy back room' -- where they have their live amplified music SHARES A COMMON WALL WITH A RESIDENCE.... they're not supposed to. How'd they get there then? Well, Bob Perl of Tower Brokerage and Paul Hinkley (private engineer -- now in federal prison for 10 yrs) -- committed FELONY FRAUD in their Public Assembly Permit, and lied on their NYS Liquor application. Two Judges from the Environmental Control Board found the Bar to be "ILLEGALLY ZONED" and ORDERED IT CLOSED. So, why are they still there? Corruption of course. And the back room...the resident on the other side of that raw-brick wall has lived there for 22 yrs........ yet, the 11th St Bar, a veritable public nuisance did not even have a Cert. of Occupancy for 12 yrs. Any penny you spend in there harms the person on the other side of the back-room wall, who has already been harmed enough by this criminal enterprise. Got ethics? SKIP THIS ONE -- You'll be doing a good deed

random yet amazing

What a fantastic atmosphere! (Unless you’re an Arsenal fan of course.) Sunday morning the bar was stock full of ex-pats, American students and even a few children. Whether you were drinking orange juice or Guinness it was a great place to join in on the Football camaraderie.
