Profile

At most local gay bars, sports night is little more than one television tuned to the game. At Gym, enthusiasm for athletics runs deeper with leagues for cheerleading, hockey, and wrestling as well as the more expected teams in soccer, softball, and volleyball. On screens big and small, you’ll see rodeo specials on a night devoted to country music or playoff games during that stretch of the season. And whereas many straight counterparts tend to blind patrons in the glare of video light, Gym features many thoughtful design touches such as wide wood floor planks, exposed brick walls, and attractive black couches beside the clutch of sports trophies and a busy pool table. Big game days draw big numbers; so do the generous happy hours when everyone’s big-city attitude seems to fall a notch or two.

There are better bars

I have to agree that Gym is not that great of a bar. The bouncers and bartenders are less than friendly and the vibe leaves much to be desired. As a native New Yorker I much prefer the atmosphere of Baraccuda or Xes if you're going to be in Chelsea. Those bars are alot more chill. Or try Barrage if you're willing to go to Hell''s Kitchen. They have great $3 cosmos on Monday nights. I personally think the bars I listed are a lot friendier and have a neighborhood feel to them.

This bar is horrible

I went to this bar one Friday night and the bartenders were rude and snapped at me for no reason. Also my drinks are weak and over priced. It claims to be a "sports bar", but it has none of the friendly, laid back atmophere of any sports bar I've ever been to. Go to one of the other 50 bars on Eight Avenue instead. You'll be treated better and have alot more fun.
