Cole Porter would hate this place, as will anyone who doesn’t get a kick from champagne. However, oenophiles who delight in the bubbly stuff’s signature tickle will revel in this bar’s unparalleled selection of both high-end vintages and fun picks to quaff in quantity. Five of the sparklers are available by the glass, and there’s also a lighthearted menu of champagne cocktails: The Au Pear’s liqueur-soaked pear bits perfectly complement the sweet-tart wine’s ripe flavor. Located on the second floor of Country, across from its formal dining room, this nook boasts enormous windows, low brown leather chairs, and a Deco-inspired marble bar adorned with vitrines full of jewel-toned garnishes. Every detail, from the feather-light flutes to the suit-clad barkeeps, seems designed to transport patrons to an elegant bygone era, where it’s easy to linger and lounge.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
