It used to be that if an East Village bar had a television at all, it was tuned to vampire porno flicks. You can see how much times have changed (even if you’re outside looking through the wall-to-ceiling windows) at this outpost of the UES sports bar Bounce: About nineteen 42-inch plasma-screen TVs flicker above the bar and the facing U-booths while lightboxes of baseball gloves and the like drive home the point. Although the sound of the big game bounces around the space during the afternoon, Major League minimizers can breathe easy when satellite radio or a Top 40 DJ takes over come nightfall. The grub, prepared by a French Culinary Institute alum, is above the rim: Buffalo wings with ‘roided up meat that practically pops off the bone and mini burgers a la Pop Burger are the clean-up hitters of choice for the $34 Table Tapper—a 3-foot plastic tube dispensing up to 116-ounces of brew from a nozzle in the bottom. One can also finesse a bunt with salads or soft-shell tilapia tacos, ideally while reclining in the back-corner lounge with its Portico-type couches.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
