This cavernous space in the southernmost part of the Slope is a departure from the cramped bars and shotgun lounges typical to the neighborhood’s hopping Fifth Avenue. Teeming with retro couches and club chairs, the brick-lined space may look like a way station for Grandma’s well-tended cast-offs but inside, a decidedly non-geriatric crowd (with a Sapphic twist) plays pool, guzzles cheap beer and mopes about in post-collegiate angst; rotating local art shows, an open mic for musicians, poets, and comedians looks to rouse those on hand from their stupor. On Saturdays a D.J. booth begins pumping out the beats and the dance floor livens up despite the lack of a cabaret license.
