When the Blue Donkey Bar moved one storefront over, it left behind its neon and Pink Floyd for a more neighborly persona. Abba’s “Dancing Queen” comes on, and locals perform the obligatory choreographed arm-dance from their bar stools, which they seem to have coordinated over the years. Incoming patrons slap hands with bartender Steve and find their self-assigned seats. The place is more of an extended living room than a bar, and the novelties of foosball, Buck Hunter, and a jukebox go ignored in place of six sport-centric flatscreen TVs and good conversation. The beer selection stretches a little outside of the Bud box, with imports like Boddingtons and Shock Top on tap, but liquor doesn’t get very exotic, save for a single absinthe offering. Burgers run on the dry side, but are pretty satisfying after a few cold ones.

Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
