Situated in the upper east 50s—a petite oasis of queer life amid the tourist-meets-suit slice of Midtown East—the Web is nothing more than a low-key gay watering hole on weeknights when smatterings of forty-somethings hang around in oversized bar stools to watch Dancing with the Stars or make bedroom eyes at each other (and the lusty singing bartender Hanz). But what a difference a day makes. Come Friday, the Web blazes to multicultural life with sassy parties like OMG Friday and über-popular Asian pageants such as the Mr. Gay Asia America and the Ms. CWeb contests. Whatever the crowd (gaysian, Latino, guppy), the two-level atrium-style club projects a lived-in charm via built-in Naugahyde banquettes and a dramatic balcony that’s witnessed its fair share of cruising, chatting and tiara-coveting.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
