This dressy bar and grill is co-owned by chef John Kekalos (formerly of Heartland Brewery, and the Dorrian family of Dorrian’s Red Hand). The latter establishment gained notoriety in 1986 as the meeting place for the Preppie Killer and his victim; 20 years later, The Falls has a grisly crime in its history as well—the rape and murder of a graduate student who was last seen alive at the bar. Far from being the seedy den such a past might imply, The Falls is a fairly conventional upscale tavern: Low-lit globe lamps and asymmetrical wall sconces illuminate the dark wood interior while a comfortable back area is outfitted in large brown leather booths and wood tables. The menu has an upscale slant as well; Kobe-beef and lobster burgers sit well with the weeknight locals, some of whom predate Soho’s gentricification. On weekends, undergrads lured by student ID discounts, buckets of beers, and a digital jukebox, take over.
