Tropical cocktails loaded with agave and pomegranate liqueurs (plus a row of 18 draft beers) aren’t the only disorienting agents at this spacious corner restaurant-bar outfitted in suede and chocolate brick. Indeed, a curvilinear see-through facade redirects your vision away from the thick mascara and sideswept neckties inside and onto the intersection of Murray Hill just outside the glass door. Whether you’re seated at one of the tables or at the forty-foot bar, the all-purpose menu trots around the globe: dim sum, nachos, and mezze with flat bread. Like the kitchen which stays open until 4 a.m., the subwoofers never sleep: Huge speakers, hanging like black cubist bats from the ceiling, pump out dance/hip-hop while larger groups pile in a booth in the back by the D.J. in an effort to tone down the dizzying din. — Julia Langbein
