Located on a dreary midtown block, this airy bar-restaurant retains the oak paneling and 18-foot gold-relief ceilings from its days as the private dining room of the Engineer Society. When the five o’clock whistle blows nowadays, however, a cavalcade of young guys from nearby HSBC and the Hitachi headquarters file in for bar food (buffalo burgers, fish and chips) complemented by reasonably priced wines from California and Europe as well as 10 tap beers, Alexander Keith’s among them. Come Thursday and Friday, a D.J. spins hip hop and pop for patrons more apt to talk office politics than to get up and dance.
Best of New York: Fun & Nightlife
Cocktails at the movies, a Monday-night bacchanal, and a great rookie-rap show.
