Located on a dreary midtown block, this airy bar-restaurant retains the oak paneling and 18-foot gold-relief ceilings from its days as the private dining room of the Engineer Society. When the five o’clock whistle blows nowadays, however, a cavalcade of young guys from nearby HSBC and the Hitachi headquarters file in for a Bayou-inspired bar menu (jerk chicken, coconut shrimp) complemented by reasonably priced wines from California and Europe as well as 10 tap beers, Boddington’s among them. Come Thursday and Friday, a D.J. spins hip hop and pop for patrons more apt to talk office politics than to get up and dance. — Veronica Cooper
