Perched fourteen floors above Columbus Circle in a Pale Male-worthy nook, this small rooftop lounge gets you just far enough out of the city to appreciate it once again. Designed by the same team that brought the members-only Above Allen, Above 6’s got an understated Japanese aesthetic, spacious seating, and a casual, yet efficient staff (table service only). Pillow-strewn, low-backed ottomans have been arranged in small conversational districts that allow for the private murmurings that stunning views inspire. And with the folks from Blue Ribbon—just a tipsy elevator ride to the lobby—constructing the cocktail menu, you’ll find the drink to suit the mood whether watching the sunset flare off the neighboring buildings, or under the shimmering nighttime ambiance of candles and city lights. Also, should the weather not cooperate, there’s no need to pack a poncho, a retractable roof is at the ready. Of course, since this is still New York, some real estate is better than others, though preference is subjective—a few seats by the ledge are downright vertigo inducing—but really, you're just being sour grapes for complaining.
Picnics with a view, roller-skating nostalgia, and a party for gay headbangers.
