This nearly hidden bar crouches in the shadows of the massive Ruppert Yorkville Towers, a ghostly skeleton in the high-class neighborhood's closet that's inhabited these days by scrappy young locals who hole up and slurp spirits quickly through wide plastic straws. Once probably the foyer of some modest residence, this dark drinking den has more than a few haunted attributes, from flickering blue votive candles to a peculiar stairway to nowhere smack in the middle of the space. Red star-shaped lanterns add an eerie glow from overhead and mirrors glint from unlikely corners. Yet the vibe isn't as creepy as it could be; on weekends, the wooden tables and chairs are crammed with raucous co-eds and their consorts, and Saturday night brings a busy karaoke crowd. At the single pool table, you're more likely to be a spectator than a player, since it's often already claimed by the next lot of spirited contestants.
