Taking up where the old Night Café left off, Amsterdam 106 has good burgers and pretty facesmost of the old, unfakeable sleaze from days gone by is no more, and whether or not that’s a bad thing is your call. The happy hours are still more than generous: Bud at $2.50 from 4–7 p.m., with well drinks and house wine going for $4. Not only that, but the extensive beer selection (twenty-four rotating drafts and more than twenty bottles) includes brews like Monty Python Holy Grail Ale and Wychwood Brewery's Hobgoblin. And the space looks nice, with soda-fountain-style marble-top tables, exposed-bricks walls, and fluted mirrors adorning every possible niche of space. Added bonus: The better-than-average bar food and desserts wash down well with whatever you’re drinking.
Best of New York: Nightlife
Custom-made cocktails, celebrity talent shows, and the new Beatrice on the block.
