Profile

Votive candles, exposed-brick walls, and leather couches give this basement dive an unassuming feel. So what’s with the T-shirts for sale? Those would be the work of designer and bar owner Pete Wentz, better known as Fall Out Boy’s "Page Six"–courting bassist. Formerly the Orchid Lounge, his reappropriated spot did not, thankfully, undergo a radical emo transformation. It's still a scuzzy, unfinished room with a jukebox featuring Fugazi, Quicksand, and, yes, Fall Out Boy. If Angels & Kings has bragging rights as a domain for parties thrown by Wentz’s scene buddies like Piebald and Cobra Starship, it's also got its fair share of celebrity fallout with Kentucky fangirls in Capri sweatpants loitering in search of a shriek-worthy moment.

Too bad they changed it

I used to love the Orchid Lounge. Happy hour till 8PM got you $5 Lychee Martinis among other specialty drinks and they were STRONG. Off happy hour drinks were still very reasonably priced. Good music, great crowd, lounge atmosphere. Oh and when they would bang the gong behind the bar, everyone in the place got a free shot.... happened more often than you would think! Sadly after it became Angels & Kings, the awesome happy hour special left along with the gong, the nice prices, the good music, and the crowd... well, it completely changed. Needless to say my friends and I don't go there anymore. Too bad.
