Profile

The gimmick, in case you haven't heard, is that the entrance is unmarked and the address is a secret. But frankly, no one's trying all that hard to keep things under wraps, and that's a hell of a lot  less obnoxious than your average velvet-rope wrangler. The ambience is rec room as reinterpreted by any magazine with an asterisk in the title: a boxy space split by the world's longest end table. Too bad it's so hard to move around.

My husband and I, a very good looking couple, went there last night. There was a large crowd of people waiting to get in. They called all the girls to go in. The one guy called me and I pulled my husband along. When they saw him they said no to us. My husband showed his Fire Department I.D. and they wouldn't honor it. He was so upset we just took off.

The staff was surprisingly friendly, including the fur coat-clad bouncer, but they subjected my friend and me (both 20-something females) to an oddly thorough handbag search upon entering the foyer, perhaps in conjunction with the zero tolerance drug policy notice that graces the front door. From there our experience was only lackluster; despite arriving at 10:30 on a Friday night neither the upstairs area, where we split a bottle of too-sweet and overpriced pinot grigio, nor the basement had any energy...and it never picked up. The crowd was an odd mix of suits, Euro tourists, and romantic couples (sipping pink martinis), and the decor seemed plain. Where was the party vibe about which I'd heard so much? The whole scene felt flatter than week-old Champagne.
