Private Parties Only.
The only sign that this boxy club used to be a twenties theater is the classy rotunda ceiling over the dance floor. When it glows with a rainbow of LED lights, revelers look like they’re about to be sucked into the mothership. Matte silver walls intensify that sleek spaceship effect, but what really transports clubbers into other realms—well, besides the spirits served at four bars—are the gigantic digital screens for party-themed imagery. When the electronic eye candy gets boring, three different tiers of seating facilitate voyeurism: communal banquettes just a few steps off the floor for bottle brats, a mezzanine for a bird’s-eye view of the dance-floor grind, and a still higher-up low-ceilinged perch of U-booths that’s eye-to-eye with the open DJ booth. It’s all very elegant and much more intimate than the sports-center name implies.
