Profile

Parties at this indoor-outdoor lounge are bumping. When DJs spin Wednesday through Saturday, the ethnically mixed crowd of men in casual business attire and shimmery women gets down to whatever's on the turntables (often eighties pop and contemporary hip-hop). It's the setting that really heightens the mood, though: a 15th floor rooftop overlooking Midtown, with a view to the glowing pyramids crowning Worldwide Plaza, and down Broadway to Times Square, which is engulfed in brightness at 1am. Meanwhile the immediate atmosphere replicates a night at the beach, with wicker stools, dune grass and a 10-foot palm tree surrounded by a wooden bench. Downstairs in the equally crowded, tall-windowed penthouse, cushioned, modular couches striped in green, blue and brown enhance the positive energy while cocktails in the family of Razberi Cooler, the Key Lime and the peachy Tiger Lily keep things colorful.

Extra

On full nights, there can be a wait by the lobby elevators; the indoor lounge is on the penthouse floor, and the rooftop is one flight up.

going for round four tonight

Well, gosh, I'm sorry to hear some of my fellow citizens have not enjoyed their experiences at the Ava lounge. I don't mean to diminish their down times but I've been there on three separate occasions and going back tonight for a fourth. I've been there on a date (another man); once with my mother; and once with my half-sister and her mother. Okay - I admit - not a fierce city pad; really. I suppose I think of it as a great place to take tourists. (Tonight I'm meeting friends from my homeland there. I figure the views will amuse them.) It's not flawless; the food / nibblies menu really does lack flare. But the staff has been nothing but extremely courteous. The crowd very diverse (but very straight, I think) and in general it's quite pleasant. OH I forgot - went there one other time with my city friend's mother when she was in town. It's not cool or hip but it's perfectly acceptable for certain kinds of nights. The views are STUNNING.

'Bad Business"

Overall I was extremely disappointed in the Ava Lounge. The bouncers were incredibly rude and unprofessional. Even though my organization reserved space there for a holiday party, not all of our co-workers got into the party. I watched the bouncers lie to people on line (some of which were my coworkers) and claim that there were too many people in the lounge and therefore they needed to wait on line, when actually the place was not crowded at all. The bouncers argued, were rude, and because of their unfair treatment and (what I felt like was discrimination), not everyone from my organization got into the Ava lounge and was forced to miss their company holiday party. The DJ did his best to play popular music but he just wasn't able to keep the crowd engaged. The best part about this lounge is the view and the people I went with, but that's not worth being mistreated. Because of the way we were treated at this place I will never go back and could not recommend it.
