Profile

In the market for subdued conversation, tasteful décor and sushi? Then give Avenue A Sushi a wide berth. But should you wish to imbibe amongst a half dozen video screens (which  show movies, videos, and  Japanese animé), the front bar will do you just fine. As you gulp down your Japanese beer, a DJ doles out trance music in doses perhaps a tad too intense for patrons wishing to converse comfortably. Taking note of the gaudy décor (multi-colored streamers, much kitsch), you realize that you're in a place that aims not to provide a fine-dining experience but to fuel up the club-goer for a night of, well, clubbing.

DJ

Fri.–Sat., 7:30 p.m.–12:30 a.m.

This restaurant was able to accommodate a last minute reservation for my group of 15. The sushi was delicious (I ordered the Maki A combo) and filling (lots of bang for our buck) and everybody agreed the miso soup was delicious. The atmosphere was fun, although it was a little hard to read the menu due to the darkened lights. I will gladly return again, and I'm sure my friends feel the same.

The sushi was blah. Our "crunchy" salmon and tuna were completely mushy. And they were exactly the same color. When we asked the waitress which was which she took them to the suchi chef and said they look the same because they're a lot of mayonnaise. The quality of the tuna in a different roll seemed good, but I'm not going to bother again. There are 3 or 4 better sushi places within a block. The service had her head in the clouds and didn't bring hot tea despite repeated requests. When we told her not to bother and got the check she said "oh yeah, I forgot that" instead of "whoops, I'm sorry." With so many good restaraunts in the area, don't waste your appetite there.
