Since debuting as a lounge in 1951, this broken-in Irish cornerstone has grown into a comfortable, neighborhood hangout in the sleepier stretches of Yorkville. Outfitted with low, milky sconces, a dark-tin ceiling, and a stately, brass-studded back bar dating to the 1890s (it was brought in from a shuttered tavern), the bar offers a respectable scene for its $6 drafts. Staid regulars and proud alumni (mostly of Notre Dame, Michigan, and Penn State) frequent the eleven-screen space, tending to their pints of Guinness or Johnny on the rocks or trying their hand at the video golf. All in all, it’s a place more apt to host Sunday-afternoon languor than a Saturday-night spectacle.
